We’ve all been there…

I remember the day when I looked at my hair and spotted the split ends. First I panicked. Then I started searching for remedies.

I really thought I’d need to get a short haircut.

After browsing through some blogs I figured it wasn’t that bad. I found some remedies to repair damaged ends. First things first, though.

What causes hair splitting?

I’m almost sure each one of you have suffered because of split ends at least once but most of you have no idea what caused them. Let’s face it, the needs of hair is still a topic most people don’t know much about. It’s time to catch up and learn the reasons why hair splits. The examples are:

  • use of products that don’t answer the needs of your own hair
  • overuse of hot tools and lack of heat protection
  • not moisturizing and nourishing enough (diet)
  • chronic stress, health problems, hormonal imbalance
  • mechanical damage e.g. while sleeping or brushing
  • parched hair because of SLS or alcohols in products

First step to take when you notice split ends

What can you do once you spot your hair ends are split? Don’t panic of course. Don’t be afraid of the scissors either.

Unfortunately, split ends have to be cut off because you simply can’t glue them back together. This doesn’t mean, however, that you need to get a pixie. Cutting off only half an inch will do. Just go to a trusted salon to really get this much cut off (unless you don’t care about the length).

Remember to give up on all things which are likely to damage your hair and make it split: no more blow-drying, heat styling, sleeping with your hair down. Gentle brushing and washing, replacing your products with ones made from better ingredients and obviously building new eating habits: these are the basics.

Still, the ends of hair don’t repair themselves and we can’t prevent splitting by merely doing the above. How to strengthen the tips of hair, then?

Top Remedies for Split Ends

Here are my cures for split ends – the best and never-failing remedies!

COTTONSEED OIL TREATMENT

Damaged and split-prone hair clicks with cottonseed oil. You can believe me or see it for yourself: all you need to do is apply cottonseed oil (or blend it with argan and castor oil first) before every hair wash to make the hair thicker, stronger and less coarse within a few weeks.

LIQUID SILK FOR HAIR

Liquid silk is an ally for all women struggling to get smooth, shiny and easy-to-style hair. Just a drop of it after washing is enough to make the hair look its best and make it much more resistant to damage from heat styling or brushing.

ARGAN OIL AFTER WASHING

Argan oil plays the same role when applied after washing. It shields against the sunlight and heat, for example. It is one of the strongest repairing oils and that’s why it makes a brilliant remedy for splitting ends. Plus, it is an all-natural cure (if you choose cold-pressed, unrefined argan oil).

KERATIN HAIR MASK

You need to strengthen your hair throughout the length, not only the tips. What’s best for this purpose? Keratin mask of course! Keratin is a protein which builds our hair so it easily reinforces the strands, making them more resilient, shinier and damage-proof.

How to repair damaged hair ends? Summary

If you’ve got split ends, you need to make a salon appointment first, and then move on to repair actions. Natural oils have always worked wonders on my hairdo. I love them and always recommend them.

And the key thing: patience. It comes in useful!
