Choosing the right shade of your brow pencil can be a real challenge. After all, we want to get a natural effect that perfectly matches our eyebrow color and skin tone. For many years, I also struggled with this problem and tried different shades, often ending up with overdrawn eyebrows.
But I finally found a way that helped me choose the perfect shade of my eyebrow pencil! You just have to consider several factors that may affect the final choice 😉
First, pay attention to your natural hair color. If you have blonde hair, pale brown or blonde shades are usually the best choice. For brunettes and owners of gray hair, darker shades will be better as they add definition and depth to the eyebrows. The color of the pencil must be close to the natural shade of the hair, so avoid bright or contrasting colors.
Another factor to consider is your skin tone. If you have fair skin, usually cooler shades of brown will look better, while for warm skin tones, it’s worth choosing pencils with warmer undertones 🙂 Seriously, this is important! Finding a balance between hair color and skin color will help create a harmonious brow look.
Finally… experiment and test different shades! When choosing the best brow pencil, you can try several shades on your forearm or a small part of the eyebrow. Observe how the shades behave and whether they look natural.

A professional brow pencil with great potential 🙂 I’ve been dreaming of an eyebrow pencil with a brush that can work wonders and… I found this one! This is a real gem among brow-styling cosmetics. This unusual pencil gave me a WOW effect! <3 It comes with an extremely thin tip that perfectly fills in and defines the eyebrows. It doesn’t need to be sharpened, so the tip is perfect every time I slide it out of the case. With this long-wear brow pencil, I know that my makeup looks perfect all day long – it doesn’t smudge or wear off, even in extreme conditions 😉 apart from that, this precision eyebrow pencil comes in neutral shades that suit any woman. Doing my eyebrows with Nanobrow Eyebrow Pencil is really fun 🙂 My eyebrows look like I always have a professional eyebrow stylist with me! The product is not the cheapest one on the beauty market, but the quality and the effects it ensures compensate for this small investment. A good brow pencil that gives my eyebrows a lovely look every time I reach for it 🙂 This precision brow-styling pencil works well for both everyday wear and special occasions. However, I think it’s better for thin eyebrows, while on thick eyebrows, it may not give the same effect. Overall, it’s a recommended brow makeup pencil that creates a natural brow look. However, if you don’t like the no makeup brow look, this product may not appeal to you. The formula is smudge-proof, so you don’t have to worry about your eyebrows all day long. Moreover, it’s available in many natural shades to match your features. You can definitely find better brow pencils at this price, but this one obviously can’t be denied its effectiveness 🙂

3. Benefit Precisely, My Brow
A brow-defining pencil worth reaching for. It can be found in a variety of natural shades to suit every woman. This professional eyebrow pencil with a brush works best for special occasions, as it is way too pigmented for everyday wear. If you like the effect of boldly defined eyebrows, this one will also work for daytime makeup 🙂 The retractable ultra-thin applicator unfortunately often breaks, which is a huge downside of this product. Because of these few drawbacks, I dare to say this is definitely not the best brow pencil on the beauty market, but it is worth reaching for from time to time. Perhaps it works better for you? 😉

4. Charlotte Tilbury Brow Cheat
A slanted eyebrow pencil I couldn’t convince myself to use for a long time. It seems easy to use, however, it gave me some trouble. Maybe because I haven’t dealt with such a slanted tip before. This thick eyebrow pencil definitely won’t work for women with fine eyebrow hairs. It provides a better effect on thick but sparse eyebrows. It nicely fills in the gaps, defines the eyebrows, and emphasizes the features. It requires considerable precision and skills, and a lot of patience if used by beginners… I prefer more precise brow pencils, which suit any woman. However, if your eyebrows are really thick, this could be the one for you 😉 Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think. I’m still not fond of this applicator.

5. Dior Diorshow Brow Styler
A brow pencil that precisely fills in challenging brows. It works especially well for owners of very thin, almost invisible brows. This waterproof eyebrow pencil works well even at the pool or the gym. It doesn’t smudge or wear off during the day 🙂 You can find it in many shades (there is a lot to choose from!). Unfortunately, the tip often breaks, which is a big downside of this product. Overall, it is worth investing in it, because it is very long-wear. This professional eyebrow pencil keeps the brows in one place all day, so you can be sure your makeup looks nice and precise. You don’t have to constantly control it in the mirror. It’s not an efficient eyebrow pencil though, it wears out quickly, so I don’t use it very often.

6. KVD Beauty Signature Brow
A precision brow pencil that defines and shapes brows nicely. I think it will work well on both thin and thick arches. This brow pencil comes with a brush, which makes it easy to distribute the color evenly. And as for the shades… you can find it in many different ones 🙂 You can combine them! This waterproof eyebrow-styling pencil comes with a thin tip, which can draw individual hair-like strokes. Unfortunately, in this case, the applicator also breaks quickly, which is problematic. In addition, although it is waterproof, in my opinion, it is not a long-wear eyebrow pencil. It definitely didn’t work when exposed to water or at the gym. It wears off quite quickly… I think a lot depends on your skin type, it definitely won’t last long on oily skin. I have combination skin and it smudges a bit. Maybe it works better on dry or normal skin:) I definitely won’t buy this vegan brow pencil again, as you can find better products at this price. But whatever floats your boat 😉

7. NYX Professional Micro Brow Pencil
A retractable eyebrow pencil that I’m sure every woman knows 🙂 It has a retractable tip, so you don’t need to sharpen it. I personally am a fan of this type of pencil. This one, unfortunately, is not one of my favorites, because it is not durable. It’s not moisture-resistant, so it smudges and wears off when it comes in contact with sweat or rain. It requires frequent touch-ups, which I definitely do not like. In my opinion, it is not suitable for hot weather or an intense workout. In addition, I have difficulty defining the shape of my eyebrows precisely. I think it’s just not a brow pencil for beginners. True, it comes with a convenient brush that makes blending easier, but the applicator itself is, in my opinion, uncomfortable and not very precise. Another downside? It’s not an efficient brow pencil – it runs out quickly, so I definitely won’t buy it again. Too many cons, right…? But its great advantage is a variety of lovely shades 😉

8. Clinique Quickliner For Brows
A delicate pencil for eyebrows, which will not work for women who need strong pigmentation to fill in their brows. In my opinion, it is good for daytime makeup, while for special occasions, it will not be a good choice. It’s not very long-lasting and wears off quickly, in addition, it’s really delicate. On the plus side… the formula is not quick-drying, so you can easily do touch-ups. It is pleasant to apply. The retractable brow pencil keeps the brows in good condition for hours. It nicely defines undemanding arches. Definitely not a long-lasting effect though. This eyebrow-shaping pencil wears out quickly and is not very efficient. Decide for yourself whether it’s worth buying it… I’m a fan of other products. Is this the best brow pencil on the beauty market? In my opinion, no.
Eyebrow pencil – how to define brows with it?
The secret to perfectly styled eyebrows using a pencil? It’s easier than you think 😉 Defining eyebrows with a pencil can be a tricky task at first, especially for those who are new to eyebrow makeup. However, with the right technique and some practice, you can achieve amazing results 😉 That’s why today I’m going to share with you my proven tricks for creating the perfect eyebrow look.
- First, I prep my eyebrows. Believe it, you can’t do without this. I pluck out the excess hairs with tweezers or trim them with scissors. Then I comb them with a spoolie.
- I pick the right eyebrow pencil. It is important to match the shade and consistency to our preferences 🙂 I already mentioned how to choose the shade of your eyebrow pencil, so if you don’t remember, go back a bit 😉
- I gently outline my eyebrows with the pencil along the bottom brow line. I start from the inner eye corner. Then I gradually add thin hair-like strokes following the direction of hair growth. I fill in any gaps to give the eyebrows the desired look and shape. Remember to follow the direction of hair growth so that the effect comes out as naturally as possible.
- I brush my eyebrows with a spoolie to evenly distribute the color and get rid of any excess product. This step is very important if you want to get the most natural eyebrow look 🙂
- If I make a mistake, I use a q-tip soaked in micellar water to gently correct the shape of my eyebrows. In addition, you can use concealer to correct uneven tails.
After many mistakes, I discovered that the key to perfect eyebrows is gentleness and… patience. At first, it’s not good to press the pencil too hard against the eyebrows – it’s better to gradually build up the coverage. Practice makes perfect 🙂 Do not be afraid to experiment! Regular practice with your brow pencil will help you improve your skills.
Everyone’s brow shape and style are different. At first, it was difficult for me to get the desired effect, but eventually, I did 🙂 You just have to adjust the technique to your preferences. It is important to find the best way to define your eyebrows, which will suit you perfectly.
