Hey guys!
I’m happy you’ve popped in and hope you’ll enjoy reading another post with reviews of my top picks – this time I’m focusing on thermal protection sprays for hair that every owner of hot styling devices should have.
Do you use such products?
a. YES, ALWAYS!
b. NOPE, IT’S NOT FOR ME.
I hope most of you chose ‘a’ because thermal protection is one of the most important things for hair health!
However, if you belong to the other group, then I’ll try to convince you that protection while heat styling makes sense. And I’ll show you some products as an example.
Easy way to protect my hair against thermal damage while heat styling
I love flat-ironing but I realize the damage it can do, burning, drying out and ruining the hair. I decided on a compromise – heat styling with precautions, using simple and inexpensive methods.
How do I protect my hair against heat?
- I don’t flatiron unless I really need or want to.
- I never flat-iron wet hair!
- I apply heat protection sprays.
- I try to avoid setting max. temps. on heated devices.
To be honest, hair styling products are my discovery of recent months – they allow me to heat-style my hair making sure it doesn’t get hurt in the process.
We can choose between different options: creams, conditioners, mists, serums, oils and sprays. Given my experience, I’m sure that sprays work out best because the light texture of spray ensures protection without weighing hair down or leaving it greasy.
What are the best heat protectant sprays for hair styling?
1. NANOIL HEAT PROTECTANT SPRAY
The first place belongs to the one-of-its-kind heat protection spray from Nanoil. It ensures protection from 430℉/220℃ and the sunlight. It is extremely effective working on many levels:
- it prevents dryness
- it reduces color fading and dullness
- it has a strengthening and damage-repairing effect
- it stops frizz and static
- it leaves the hair smooth, glossy and resilient
- it cuts blow-drying and heat styling time in half
I love its elegant design and light texture. Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray creates a featherlight coating which protects without heavy feel or greasiness. It’s friendly to all hair types, and contains silk proteins which strengthen and smooth the unruliest hair. You just need to spray it after washing and get to the regular blow-drying and styling routine.

2. KÉRASTASE DISCIPLINE FLUIDISSIME SPRAY
A slightly more expensive option comes second in my ranking – Kérastase Discipline Fluidissime in an elegant, orange bottle. It’s one of the products from this range.
- it protects the hair from heat damage
- it prevents frizz
- it eases and speeds up hair styling routine
- it slightly strengthens the hair
I’m not a huge fan of Kérastase but this thermal protection spray is really cool. It contains the so-called Morpho-Keratine Complex which is a combo of amino acids, ceramides and wheat proteins. It also includes polymers. Well, not the most natural product for sure.
3. OUAI HEAT PROTECTION SPRAY
Ouai’s spray is another product we can choose for anti-heat protection. This multitasking hair mist looks very simple and is lightweight.
- it protects the hair from heat
- it makes heat styling easier
- it delivers a glossy finishing touch
- it nourishes, strengthens and softens the hair
I like this product for the flowery scent but there’s more to it. By spritzing Ouai Heat Protection Spray on the hair, we ensure protection but also nourish the hair thanks to added nutrient-rich ingredients such as jojoba oil and extracts from aloe, chamomile, melissa, Barbary fig, white oak bark, and more. I just wish it was more budget-friendly.
4. DAVINES MELU HAIR SHIELD
Davines offers some heat protection products too. I tried one and recommend it, but I know the price is a turnoff. This protective hair mist is from the Essential Haircare range:
- it prevents damage during a heat styling routine
- it eases everyday hair styling
- it protects from free radicals
- it reduces frizz
It is possible thanks to rosemary extract which not only has the characteristic scent but also is a potent antioxidant, plus anionic resin which protects the hair from heat. With such ingredients, Davines Melu spray-on conditioner does great in daily hair care, producing visible effects.
Using heat protection sprays – how to do it quickly and how to do it right
I’m a huge fan of heat protectant sprays not only for the effects but, mostly , for the easy use. Applying a conditioner, cream or serum isn’t as quick as using a spray. There are two ways to do that:
Time-saving: Usually I haven’t got much time for lengthy treatments during my haircare routine so I like to spray the product on dry hair and curl it using a straightener – the bouncy curls last all day. Most protective sprays can be used on dry hair and reapplied many times.
After washing: A typical way of using such sprays involves spraying them all over wet hair after shampooing before brushing and blow-drying, and then flat-ironing or curling.
USE THEM THE WAY YOU LIKE!
Finding the right heat protection hair product and using it whenever necessary is what matters the most.
Till next time <3
