Hello girls!
Today, I’d like to broaden the knowledge about Tea Tree oil. I completely don’t know why, but I have never posted anything about it. It is definitely worth mentioning this precious oil in a separate entry! So here we go, ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Tea Tree oil.
Tea tree oil, also known as melaleuca oil or ti-tree oil, is an essential oil obtained from the leaves of the myrtle tree, Melaleuca alternifolia, native to Southeast Queensland and the Northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. For centuries, it has been used by the inhabitants for various purposes: leaf wraps are used, among other things, to heal wounds and ulcers and protect against insect bites.
Its colour ranges from pale yellow to nearly colourless and clear; the consistency is not too thick. Due to its properties, it is a versatile, natural cosmetic that takes care of the complexion and heals any skin changes.
Its disinfecting, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties make it irreplaceable in the treatment of oily skin, prone to acne and pimples. It is also recommended for the care of problematic scalp, and for all fungal infections or difficult to heal wounds. Tea tree oil brings relief to insect bites – it soothes itching and swelling and accelerates the healing of the bite wounds.
Tea Tree oil – purpose, use, properties, recipes
1. Tea Tree oil for acne
That’s probably its most popular use. Tea Tree oil provides bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties – when applied in its pure form (as a spot treatment), it easily penetrates the skin and fights the bacteria responsible for acne formation. Tea tree oil will also overcome cold sore blisters on the lips by bringing relief to itchiness and prevents further inflammations. Moreover, the oil can be added to a face toner – this way it will balance the work of sebaceous glands, prevent the skin from becoming oily and shiny and it will allow its regeneration. Another advantage of this precious oil is that there are no unwanted side effects known to all of those who have been struggling with acne – I am talking about the dryness of the skin that sometimes (often?) comes along with the cosmetics used for acne treatment – it happens because they always contain alcohols. It is also important that Tea Tree oil boosts the production of the new epidermis and this way it delivers freshness to the skin and makes it thoroughly cleansed. The skin is then able to absorb beautifying and conditioning substances faster.
If you decide to buy a pure Tea Tree oil, I’d like to give you a piece of advice on how to use it, to make the best of it:
- you can add a few drops to your face cream, toner, micellar water – this way you will strengthen their action and leave the skin refreshed and cleansed.
- if you are already using another face oil – you can combine it with Tea tree oil and apply the blend in the form of a serum under the cream. It is best to apply oils before bedtime, this way you will wake up with a fresh, smooth and radiant skin without any imperfections.
- instead of purchasing a spot treatment for the acne – apply pure Tea Tree oil – this will make the pimples dry and fade.
- Tea tree oil will also be a great addition to face masks – you can add a few drops to a ready-made mask; for a clay mask, it will be a good dissolving base.
- a skin with imperfections will welcome (with relief) a ritual called sauna: add a dozen or so drops of oil to the bowl with warm water and bend over the bowl, covering the head with a towel. Breathe in the resulting air and let it also work on your face
2. Tea Tree oil for scalp
If you sometimes suffer from scalp irritations caused by mechanical damage (too hard brush bristles, sleeping with curlers in, sunburns, injuries caused by potent, comedogenic care products, etc.) you will definitely become fond of Tea Tree oil. It is perfect for those kinds of problems because it disinfects, soothes and heals. Additionally, it is irreplaceable in treating dandruff seborrheic dermatitis, because it normalizes the secretion of sebum and restores the skin’s purity, and also has an antifungal effect.
How to use Tea Tree oil on hair?
There are two ways you can do it:
- add a few drops to the shampoo and wash your hair with such a mixture. Remember to allow the oil to work it is best to leave it in for a couple of minutes and then rinse.
- Tea Tree oil can also be applied to the scalp under one condition, you must first combine it with another mild oil, for instance, Almond oil or Jojoba oil. This ‘oil mask’ is to be kept on the head for longer than two minutes so you can be sure it will bring more benefits.
Tea Tree oil where to buy
Due to its properties, Tea Tree oil appears not only in drugstores but also in healthy food shops and pharmacies. It is even available online so you will not have any troubles purchasing it. Because it gathers good reviews, it is popular and easy to find.
